Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a well-established, evidence-based treatment that has been used in clinical settings for more than 20 years. It is supported by a large and growing body of medical research, including randomized, controlled, and double-blind studies. These studies consistently show that Radial Shockwave Therapy can significantly reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term tissue healing for many musculoskeletal conditions. In published research, patients have experienced up to 91% improvement, with reported success rates of approximately 84% across a variety of conditions.

Shockwave therapy is especially effective for chronic injuries and pain conditions—cases where the body’s natural healing process has slowed or stopped altogether. By stimulating circulation, cellular activity, and tissue regeneration, shockwave therapy helps “restart” healing in areas that have not responded well to rest, medication, injections, or other conservative treatments.

Conditions commonly treated with shockwave therapy include, but are not limited to:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain

  • Achilles tendinitis and other ankle injuries

  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy and shoulder pain

  • Patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee)

  • Hip pain and gluteal tendinopathy

  • Shin splints

  • Chronic muscle strains and ligament injuries

  • Scar tissue and soft tissue adhesions

  • Calcific tendinitis

  • Chronic neck, back, and joint pain related to soft tissue dysfunction

Research also shows that shockwave therapy can be particularly beneficial for patients who have been dealing with pain for months—or even years—and for those seeking a non-surgical, non-invasive option to support healing and recovery. Radial shockwave therapy is also safe and effective over healed surgical sites including those with hardware.

Clinical research, patient outcome data, and treatment indications are widely available. If you would like to learn more about the science behind shockwave therapy or how it may apply to your specific condition, we are happy to provide additional information and answer any questions you may have.

Treatment & Recovery Time

Shockwave treatments are quick, typically lasting 10–15 minutes. You may feel some discomfort during the treatment as the therapy works deep into the injured tissue, but the intensity is always adjusted to keep you as comfortable as possible.

Many patients notice improvements in pain and mobility right away, even after their first session. During your initial visit, the doctor will evaluate your condition, discuss your goals, and create a personalized treatment plan. For most injuries, a series of 6–12 weekly sessions is recommended to support lasting relief and allow the tissue to fully heal.
